Appearance: Large birds of prey with dark brown feathers, a distinct white head and tail, a sharp hooked beak and talons

Habitat: Found throughout North America and prefer anywhere near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, and even coastal areas

Behavior: Active during the day and primarily feed on fish, though they can also prey on small mammals and birds. They build large nests known as aeries which can be up to 6-10 feet in diameter and height

IUCN Conservation Status: Though once endangered, conservation efforts have elevated these birds to Least Concern
